Success Story: 'Steam & Steel' Primary School Program

The Challenge: Bridging Past & Present

A forward-thinking local council in County Dublin sought to forge a vibrant connection between primary school students and a disused yet historically significant railway works. The goal was to instill an appreciation for local industrial heritage and its continuing relevance, moving beyond dusty textbooks to dynamic, hands-on learning.

Our Role: Crafting an Immersive Journey

Anvil & Chain partnered with the council and local educators to develop the comprehensive 'Steam & Steel' program. Our contribution encompassed a full suite of interactive resources designed to captivate young learners. This included an authentic-looking 'Railway Engineer's Logbook' activity booklet, a captivating pre-visit video introducing the site's history and key figures, and a detailed teacher's guide with curriculum links and activity suggestions.

The Outcome: Lasting Impact & Enthusiastic Engagement

Within its inaugural year, the 'Steam & Steel' program was enthusiastically adopted by over 20 primary schools across the region. Feedback from teachers was overwhelmingly positive, consistently praising its strong curriculum alignment, ease of implementation, and, most importantly, the profound level of student engagement it fostered. The program transformed the railway works into a living classroom, inspiring a new generation to explore their industrial roots.
