A unique piece of industrial ingenuity, now a landmark on Dublin's quays.
Learn MoreNestled on Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin's Diving Bell stands as a unique monument to the city's industrious maritime history. This engineering marvel played a crucial role in the expansion and maintenance of Dublin Port's quays and docks for over 60 years. Designed by Bindon Blood Stoney and installed in 1866, it allowed workers to construct underwater masonry with remarkable precision, helping to shape the very foundations of modern Dublin.
Anvil & Chain's Contribution: In 2015, Anvil & Chain was privileged to lead the conservation project for the Dublin Diving Bell. Our team meticulously restored the bell to its original glory, preserving its historical integrity. Beyond physical restoration, we developed the accompanying interpretive panels and a mobile application that vividly explain its operational mechanics and its profound impact on Dublin's development. This project exemplifies our dedication to bringing industrial heritage to life.
Visitor Information: The Diving Bell is freely accessible on Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2. It's a key part of the Dublin Port heritage trail. Visit Dublin Port Heritage Site
